OTOJATIM - Indonesia has become one of BYD's most important markets for new energy vehicles, prompting the automaker to expand the M6 lineup with two different powertrain choices. At the 2026 GAIKINDO Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS), BYD introduced the updated M6 EV alongside the M6 DM, giving customers the flexibility to choose the technology that best matches their driving habits.
"Indonesia is a very important market for BYD, with mobility needs that continue to evolve across different regions. Through Battery Electric Vehicle (EV) and Dual Mode (DM) technologies, we want to provide more choices so more Indonesians can adopt new energy vehicles based on their mobility needs," said Eagle Zhao, President Director of PT BYD Motor Indonesia.
"The BYD M6 represents that vision by offering two technology options within the same model. Today, that lineup is complete with the arrival of both the BYD M6 EV and the BYD M6 DM," Zhao added.
The expanded lineup reflects Indonesia's diverse driving conditions. Battery electric vehicles are well suited for daily urban commuting, while the Dual Mode system is designed for motorists who regularly travel between cities and require greater driving range. By offering both technologies under the M6 nameplate, BYD aims to make new energy vehicles accessible to a wider range of customers.
Head of Public and Government Relations PT BYD Motor Indonesia, Luther Panjaitan, said different mobility patterns require different technology solutions.
"Some customers are fully ready to drive electric vehicles every day, while others still need greater flexibility for long-distance travel. By offering the BYD M6 in both EV and Dual Mode versions, we hope more people can experience new energy vehicles without changing their existing mobility habits," said Panjaitan.
The latest BYD M6 EV, which is fully manufactured in Indonesia, receives several upgrades. The Standard variant now features a 58 kWh battery pack with a claimed driving range of up to 450 kilometers. Maximum output has increased to 150 kW with 310 Nm of torque, while the claimed 0–100 km/h acceleration time is 7.9 seconds. The vehicle also adds a 10.25-inch Full LCD instrument cluster and a column-mounted gear selector to improve cabin usability. The Standard variant is priced at Rp395 million.
Meanwhile, the BYD M6 DM follows the company's Electric-First philosophy. An electric motor serves as the primary source of propulsion, while the gasoline engine automatically operates whenever additional power or extended driving range is required. BYD says the system is engineered to deliver responsive performance, quiet operation, energy efficiency, and adaptability across different driving conditions.
Indonesia continues to play a growing role in BYD's international business. During the first half of 2026, BYD and its premium brand DENZA sold more than 26,000 new energy vehicles in the country, representing around 35 percent of Indonesia's NEV market. The company also recorded more than 4,000 orders for the BYD M6 DM and has expanded its nationwide sales and after-sales network to more than 100 locations.
The expanded M6 family demonstrates BYD's effort to accelerate new energy vehicle adoption by allowing customers to choose the powertrain that best fits their everyday mobility requirements rather than offering a single electrified solution.
