Hyundai AI Research Collaboration with ITB

Otojatim.com - PT Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Indonesia (HMMI), on Wednesday (15 May 2024) received a visitation from Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) with research team. The visit was in the context of joint research and development conducted by HMMI and ITB in developing advance voice command features with Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies.

 
"We are very satisfied with the cooperation that has been established with ITB so far. We believe that through continuous collaboration with the world of Indonesian education and research such as this, technology and applications from Hyundai's advanced technology can get the best function formula," explained Bong Kyu Lee, President Director of PT Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Indonesia when welcoming researchers of ITB, Wednesday, May 15, 2024.

This joint research with ITB is part of the cooperation that has been going on since 2023 and will continue for the next few years. This joint research in Indonesia's academic world, aims to collect data supporting the voice command feature. This data will later serve as a basis for the advanced interactive voice command features of Hyundai cars.

As part of its commitment to operating in the country, Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Indonesia aims to develop together with Indonesia, one of which is by conducting joint research and sharing technology with academics. This step is believed to be of much use in improving the industrial ecosystem, especially in the technology sector.
 
"ITB strives to become an institution that reflects Indonesia's localities but remains globally oriented. Therefore, this voice recognition project was developed not only using the latest technology, but related to the Indonesian people as technology users. Our hope is that cooperation between ITB and Hyundai can keep continue," explained by the Head of Lembaga Pengembangan Inovasi dan Kewirausahaan (LPiK) ITB Ir. R. Sugeng Joko Sarwono, M.T., Ph.D., during the visitation to HMMI.

"In the future, we hope that collaboration can bring good benefits to all parties and more importantly, realizing the best mobility for Indonesia's future, concluded Bong Kyu Lee.

The collaboration between Hyundai manufacturing in the context of development and research does not only work with academics. With the commitment to grow and develop with Indonesia, HMMI also continuously conducts training with local suppliers.

Through this capability improvement program, suppliers are fostered to improve component research and development capabilities until certified by Hyundai's principles to create component designs independently.
 
PT. Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Indonesia was established in 2019. The company is a manufacturing subsidiary of Hyundai Motor Company, which manages Hyundai's latest investment in Indonesia, the ASEAN Manufacturing Hub in Kota Deltamas, Central Cikarang, Bekasi, West Java.

HMMI plant will represent an investment of approximately USD 1.55 billion through 2030, including product development and operating costs. The new facility has started its commercial production in the second half of 2021 with an annual capacity of 150,000 units and is targeted to reach 250,000 units per year when it reaches full capacity.

In addition to meeting the needs of the local Indonesian market, the company also exports Hyundai products to major markets in the Asia Pacific, Middle East, Africa, South, Central and North America.
