OTOJATIM - BAIC has taken another major step in Indonesia by unveiling the all-new BAIC T1 at the GAIKINDO Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) 2026. The electric crossover marks BAIC's first battery electric vehicle (BEV) for the Indonesian market, highlighting the brand's growing focus on electrification as competition in the country's EV segment continues to intensify.
"Over the past three years, PT JIO Distribusi Indonesia has built a strong foundation to introduce and develop the BAIC brand in Indonesia. Entering 2026, we are strengthening our business through dealer expansion, a broader hybrid portfolio, and the introduction of BAIC T1 as our first Battery Electric Vehicle in Indonesia. This is part of our long-term vision to offer more mobility choices while supporting the country's automotive electrification," said Dhani Yahya, Chief Operating Officer of BAIC Indonesia.
The launch builds on BAIC's growing product lineup, which already includes the BJ40 Plus, X55 II, and the BJ30 HEV. The hybrid BJ30 HEV has become the company's best-selling model in Indonesia, accounting for 56 percent of BAIC's total sales.
The company also reported strong business momentum during the first half of 2026. BAIC Indonesia recorded a 91 percent year-on-year sales increase, reflecting rising consumer confidence as the Chinese automaker expands its presence in Southeast Asia's largest automotive market.
BAIC expects the T1 to become a key contributor to future growth. The electric crossover offers a spacious cabin, smart technologies, comprehensive safety features, and everyday driving comfort. The company aims to sell 1,000 units of the T1 by the end of 2026 while targeting a 16 percent share of its intended EV market segment.
The BAIC T1 carries an official retail price of IDR 393 million. However, the first 1,000 customers will receive a special introductory price of IDR 373 million, along with complimentary dashcam and portable charging equipment. Buyers placing orders during GIIAS 2026 can also purchase a 7 kW wall charger at a discounted package price.
Beyond new products, BAIC continues investing in its retail and after-sales network. The company currently operates 16 authorized dealerships across Indonesia and plans further expansion by the end of 2026, with the Greater Jakarta area expected to reach 12 dealership locations.
Customers purchasing the BAIC T1 will receive a comprehensive ownership package that includes a six-year or 160,000-kilometre vehicle warranty, an eight-year or 160,000-kilometre battery warranty, and four years or 80,000 kilometres of free scheduled maintenance.
During GIIAS 2026, BAIC is targeting total sales of 400 vehicles, with half of that figure expected to come from the newly introduced T1. The company is also offering promotional discounts, financing packages, accessories, merchandise, and a lucky draw featuring one BAIC T1 as the grand prize for eligible buyers.
