OTOJATIM - The Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) 2026 officially launched its Exclusive Media Day at ICE BSD City, Tangerang Regency, on Wednesday (July 29). The media-only event marks the start of Indonesia’s largest automotive exhibition, giving accredited journalists early access to press conferences hosted by participating automotive brands ahead of the public opening.
“For the entire automotive industry, GIIAS is more than an annual motor show. It is a momentum to keep driving, strengthening, and accelerating the growth of Indonesia’s automotive industry,” said GAIKINDO Chairman Putu Juli Ardika.
In his opening remarks, Putu Juli Ardika described GIIAS as an important platform for demonstrating Indonesia’s resilience as one of Southeast Asia’s largest automotive markets. Despite ongoing global economic uncertainty, he said the exhibition continues to attract long-term investment, strengthen local manufacturing, and support the country's vehicle export ambitions.
“Amid global economic challenges, GIIAS serves as an important catalyst that reflects the resilience of Indonesia’s market potential. It provides manufacturers with an opportunity to demonstrate their long-term commitment through new investments, stronger local production, and industrial development,” Putu Juli Ardika said.
He also acknowledged the contribution of the media in expanding public awareness of Indonesia’s automotive industry.
“The media plays an important role in the journey of Indonesia’s automotive industry by delivering information on its development to the wider public,” he added.
According to GAIKINDO, this year's exhibition reflects the confidence of automotive manufacturers in Indonesia’s domestic market and long-term industrial prospects.
“This year’s GIIAS demonstrates how Indonesia’s automotive exhibition continues to grow in both scale and strength,” said Anton Kumonty, Chairman of GAIKINDO’s Exhibition and Conference Organizing Committee.
Anton revealed that more than 65 automotive brands are participating in GIIAS 2026, covering passenger vehicles, commercial vehicles, motorcycles, coachbuilders, and supported by over 150 automotive-related companies. The exhibition will once again become the stage for new model launches, advanced technologies, and the latest innovations from both global and domestic manufacturers.
Indonesia’s automotive industry currently supports more than 1.5 million jobs, underlining its significant contribution to the national economy. Anton said developing skilled human resources remains essential to sustaining future industrial growth.
“GIIAS is not only a showcase for automotive innovation, but also a platform that recognizes organizations contributing to the industry's ecosystem and future workforce,” Anton Kumonty said.
He highlighted the contribution of Yayasan Dharma Bhakti Astra (YDBA), which has spent 46 years strengthening Indonesia’s small and medium manufacturing enterprises through improvements in quality, cost efficiency, delivery standards, and market access. He also pointed to Politeknik Astra (AstraTech), which has developed automotive talent through its German-inspired dual education system for the past 30 years. The institution has graduated 4,994 alumni and awarded scholarships to more than 1,200 students.
Looking ahead, GAIKINDO believes stronger industrial ecosystems and a larger pool of skilled professionals will further enhance Indonesia’s competitiveness in the global automotive market.
“GAIKINDO sincerely appreciates the continued support from the media throughout the pre-event activities and the opening of GIIAS 2026. We wish all journalists a productive coverage of the latest developments in Indonesia’s automotive industry,” Anton Kumonty concluded.
