Toyota Presents the All New GR86 Sports Car and 5 New GR Sport Models at GIIAS 2022

Jakarta, Otojatim.com – Committed to bringing Joy of GAZOO Racing (GR) to all Indonesian people, PT Toyota-Astra Motor (TAM) introduced 6 new GAZOO Racing models at the same time at Toyota Hall 1 and 2 booths on the opening day of the 2022 Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) which takes place for 10 days (11-21 August 2022) at ICE BSD, Tangerang, Banten.

“Since we introduced the GR Supra in 2019, the public's enthusiasm for the GAZOO Racing models that we continue to present and equip has strengthened, and has even become a favorite type in our line-up. We are grateful that until last July 2022, in total, more than 106,000 units of our 8 GR line-up have become the people's choice, where the average composition of GR Sport type retail sales dominates 67%. We thank our customers for the enthusiasm given to our GR line-up. All New GR86 Officially Introduced in Indonesia
One of the models introduced is the All New GR86 which continues the role of the Toyota 86 as an icon of a fun-to-drive sports car. The Toyota 86 took development inspiration from the legendary AE86 in the 1980s, and has now become one of the classic sports cars admired by car enthusiasts, including in Indonesia. Having an aggressive and aerodynamic exterior design, the Toyota 86 is also favored by many modifiers in the world because this sports car is very easy and fun to modify.

The All New GR86 is the third global GR sports car model alongside the GR Supra and GR Yaris. The All New GR86 is a car directly handled and developed by TOYOTA GAZOO Racing (TGR) so that it benefits from TGR's involvement and experience in winning various international motorsport events. Introduced globally in December 2021, the sports coupe provides a new entry point to the GR lineup for GR sports car enthusiasts around the world.

The All New GR86 not only comes with a new exterior and interior design language that is more aggressive and sporty, but also with a new engine that is more powerful. The new engine on the All New GR86 has a larger capacity of 2,400 CC still with the boxer engine type to maintain a low Center of Gravity. Thus, with the same compression ratio of 12.5:1, the power generated is higher, where the maximum output is increased by 14%, from 207 PS (152 kW) at 7,000 rpm to 235 PS (173 kW) at 7,000 rpm. Likewise, the torque increased by 18%, from 212 Nm at 3,700 rpm, to 250 Nm at 3,700 rpm.

In addition, today Toyota also displays the Hilux GR Sport which is equipped with a 1GD engine with 37% more power and a more rigid suspension. The combination of engine performance and a capable suspension makes the Hilux GR Sport able to bulldoze even the toughest terrain. Moreover, to bring peace of mind to the driver when traversing difficult terrain, the Hilux GR Sport is also equipped with Toyota Safety Sense (TSS) technology.

The GR Sport model on the Hilux carries a tough and sporty style on the exterior. Marked by GR alloy wheels and GR Sport bar at the rear. While inside, the impression of advance and sporty feels very thick. The use of an entertainment system with an 8” display as well as a GR sport seat and the addition of a paddle shift makes drivers more in control even when they are bulldozing difficult terrain.

The combination of a comfortable interior, sporty exterior, and savage performance was born from Toyota GAZOO Racing's experience in dealing with the brutality of the Dakar Rally track which is very long where driver comfort and car performance are very concerned.

Not only Hilux, Toyota also presents Agya GR Sport, Raize GR Sport, Yaris GR Sport and Fortuner GR Sport with several new elements that reinforce the sporty character typical of GAZOO Racing's DNA. Improvements made to these four GR models further demonstrate their commitment to developing Toyota's GR line-up. Because the improvements made to the GR model can be done exclusively without having to involve non-GR variants to provide excitement to customers and GR Enthusiasts in Indonesia.

TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Achievement in Many Motorsport Championship
TOYOTA GAZOO Racing (TGR) was officially founded in 2015. But in fact TGR's footsteps have started since 2007 when Toyota employees volunteered to join a racing team called GAZOO Racing to take part in the Nürburgring 24 Hours endurance race in Germany, circling a mountain circuit along the about 20 km with winding road contours, up and down, smooth paved and concrete, accompanied by erratic weather.

Toyota employees who joined as drivers and mechanics, including Akio Toyoda as master driver, struggled in the rigors of non-stop competition for 24 hours relying on 2 units of Toyota Altezza RS200. Thanks to strong passion and determination, the team managed to finish the race. This achievement illustrates how TOYOTA GAZOO Racing was founded with the spirit of facing challenges, aiming to initiate change.

Since then, TGR has consistently participated in various world motorsport events, with a main focus on the World Endurance Championship (WEC), World Rally Championship (WRC), and Dakar Rally. With the spirit of Pushing The Limits for Better, TGR managed to record brilliant achievements in these three motorsport events.

In the Dakar Rally event, TGR won the overall victory so that it was named the Dakar Rally Winner in 2019 and 2022. Then at the WEC event, TGR won the Manufacturer and Driver Championship titles from 2018 to 2021. And in the WRC, in total Toyota has won the championship title for 9 years.

Here in Indonesia, we always try with a strong determination, so that we can consistently secure national titles in both the Touring and Slalom National Championships until last year.
